Bats can still be spotted in our gardens. Sadly we are seeing less and less of them these days. Many species are in decline due to a loss of habitat, and rapid development, forcing bats to look elsewhere to nest and for everyday shelter. It's fascinating to sit out during the summer months and when the sun starts to go down the bats can be spotted flying and darting about. These little amazing creatures live among us and will use our gardens for water, food and shelter. Like all wildlife, bats are in need of a habitat home, a rooting place to rest up. So many roosting places have been lost over the years, but you can help them, by adding a bat box to your garden which will help to conserve these fascinating and amazing little creatures.
You can help bats by providing roosting and nesting spaces in the form of Bat Boxes. By putting up your own ‘Bat Box’ in your garden, you are increasing roosting and nesting sites, which will make a big difference to these garden nocturnal friends in the future.
At Wildlife and Birdcare we offer this Kent Bat Box as suggested by the Bat Conservation Trust.
Bat Boxes are an artificial roosting/nesting site designed to provide bats with an alternative resting places and a safe and secure site to encourage bats into your garden area. There are too few existing suitable roosting sites, and we need to help by adding more and more. Don’t stop at one, add many.
There are various designs of bat boxes, ours are wooden boxes, some that we make for you and some that you can make yourself. Our ready-assembled external boxes you can add you a building or trees. Bat boxes need to be located fairly high with a clear flight path in. They also need some direct sunlight during the day.
